Whether considered a Chef or a cooking novice, the engaging cooking classes at Mansion on Forsyth Park’s 700 Kitchen Cooking School are a culinary experience perfect for individuals and groups of up to fifteen to enjoy. While crafting and eating delectable creations in entertaining, hands-on classes, each person lends a helping hand in preparing for the meal from peeling shrimp and cooking grits to making praline sauce and homemade biscuits. Chef Darin Sehnert, culinary director, oversees a variety of interactive programs in a state-of-the-art, full size kitchen with in-depth discussion and explanation of culinary technique and simple tricks that make cooking a very approachable form of art.

About the Chef

Chef Darin was raised in Southern California where he obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Hotel & Restaurant Management from California State Polytechnic University, Pomona. He continued his culinary studies at Johnson & Wales University, Providence, RI., graduating with honors.

Venturing to London, England, he worked at the Criterion Restaurant, an upscale Mediterranean restaurant in the heart of London”s theater district. In 1994, he joined the faculty of the School of Hotel & Restaurant Management at Cal Poly Pomona as Chef Instructor for The Restaurant at Kellogg Ranch, the university”s student-managed public fine dining restaurant. In addition, he worked with Le Cordon Bleu-Paris, conducting summer culinary programs for the public in Southern California.

From 1998-2005, Chef Darin enjoyed a varied career with Walt Disney World in Orlando, FL. He was Chef Instructor at the Disney Institute, a resort offering personal enrichment programs, and most recently was Sous Chef for the main kitchen of the Grand Floridian Resort and Spa. In 2005, Darin joined the opening team of the Mansion on Forsyth Park as the Opening Director and Chef of 700 Kitchen Cooking School, a cooking school offering hands-on personal enrichment (recreational) cooking classes for the public. Since January 2008, 700 Kitchen has been one of the top rated “Things to Do” in Savannah by the users of Tripadvisor.com

Skilled and confident in large audience and media presentations, Chef Darin has appeared as a Guest Chef on the Disney Cruise Line, at the EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival, “Taste of Chicago”, Tyler Florence”s Low-Country Celebration, the TV Food Network, Home & Garden Television, and the regional cooking show “Carolina Cooking” which was taped on location in 700 Kitchen Cooking School.

Chef Darin pens a monthly column titled “Food Fix” for Coastal Senior Magazine, a low-country regional lifestyle magazine focused on the baby-boomer demographic. He also frequently travels throughout the country to offer guests an opportunity enhance their culinary confidence with his engaging, interactive, and oh-so-tasty cooking classes!
